Docents in Art

Calling 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade parents!

Elm Street School Docents in Art is a PAC-sponsored program that introduces art history to 3rd 4th and 5th grade students. The goal of the program is to augment the children’s learning experience by exposing them to different genres and artists

Units this year include Introduction to Art, Impressionism, Asian Art, Sculpture, O'Keefe, Van Gogh, Picasso, American Art, Escher, Architecture, and Egyptian Art.

About Volunteering
Over the course of the school year, docents present six units in their student(s) classrooms (sometimes alone, with another docent, or alternating units with another docent--flexible to allow for all schedules!). The units include a presentation in the form of picture boards or PowerPoint slides and a hands-on activity for the class. You do not need to have a background in art history! All materials are supplied and each unit is "presented" to the docents at three meetings over the course of the year (recommended but not mandatory). It is a fun and easy way to spend time in the classroom and the kids really enjoy it!

Please consider volunteering for the docent program. We especially need volunteers for 3rd and 4th grade.
